First Visit

We are all nervous when we go somewhere for the first time especially when we are not sure what to expect.  At Alive for Life we always remember and respect that you are putting your trust in us.  By providing you with a relaxed, welcoming and friendly environment we help to allay these fears.

Prior to your initial visit we will ask you to complete a form briefly outlining your initial complaint and general medical history which includes medication, operations and previous and current illnesses.  We will then discuss this in more detail and complete a full case history.  Some of the questions may not seem relevant to the pain you are currently suffering, but it enables your chiropractor to gain a good overview of what stresses your body has been through or exposed to.

You will then be provided with a suitable robe and asked to undress to your underwear so your chiropractor can examine you with suitable tests mainly concentrating on the nerves, muscles and bones (neuromusculoskeletal system).  We will also use a computerised posture analysis system and bilateral scales. In some cases it may be necessary to check other systems such as heart, lungs and abdomen to rule out other causes.  If chiropractic does not appear to be a suitable form of care for you we will refer you to your GP or a relevant specialist.

After your initial consultation and examination we will arrange a time for the Report of Findings when your chiropractor will in clear, simple language discuss the findings with you, propose a plan and answer any questions you may have prior to starting care.  We try to offer this almost immediately although in some cases you may need to be referred for further tests such as x-ray, MRI or CT scan and this will be discussed and explained to you if necessary.

Recovery and health relies on more than just the passive in-clinic care so over the course of your plan you will be taught Somato-Respiratory Integration (SRI), given exercises, lifestyle and dietary advice to actively help your body become a comfortable place to live once again.

"I have had work related recurring back and neck problems that Michelle has been preventing for many years now, if I do get a flare up it is nothing compared to the pain and discomfort I experienced before becoming one of her patients.  The range of techniques she practices not only resolve the minor physical tension I occasionally experience due to my job, but also leave me with a mental and spiritual well-being that I couldn't be without now."
